Starting a new job, 3 months probation.

I took a day off sick last Friday. Came back Monday, explained that I was having a miscarriage (so stupid of me, I know). Boss was away, came back Tuesday, called me to a meeting: "how are you, (in pain with contractions, upset and tired, thanks), so sorry for you (yes, poor me) but we need to talk about your job, you are no longer suitable (am I not now!)

Same female boss who took me into meeting the week before to congratulate me about my work performance! It's not legal to sack me because you are afraid that I might get pregnant!

Being on probation, I am on 1 week notice - but no one clarified anything to me. And today, she told me "I thought you wanted to finish this week, but well if you really want to come back next week, you can"

I dont' want to come back, but I want my money! I am so furious!

Genting.com or should it Genting.con
I placed a 2.00 bet with this shower at Villa Park at crazy odds 0f 300-1 guess what I WON great news. But what I hadn’t realized was the pain and misery these idiots put you through to get your money.
I thought simple claim on line give them the bar code number for my betting slip and bank details job done OH HOW WRONG COULD I BE
Firstly had to sign up to join their on line casino
25 emails were exchanged
4 sessions on line with their help desk !!!!
A 10 deposit to open an account
A digital photograph of my driver’s license
On top of this a log on process that you need a master mind degree to get through a system that crashes more often than a learner driver on a skid pan and I don’t know how they did this but my keyboard worked fine. Go on their site and it takes 5-15 key depressions to enter a digit UNLESS you’re putting money onto your account.
Did I get paid in the end YES I did, was it the worst on line experience I have ever had YES. Would I have bothered if I had won 20.00 NO. And that’s where the problem is. In my humble opinion the method of payment is so onerous it has been set up people to walk away in frustration
Stay well away from it – you have been warned

After living out of the UK for 33 years and returning here after 17 years in California to look after my aging mother who died in May 2011, imagine my disgust when I wrote to BT advising she had died and that they should continue sending Bills as per usual as I was living in my mothers hose and that I wold make sure they got paid.

Can you imagine, when running an organization full time in the States maintaining web-sites, e-mail addresses and having to provide e-mail shot functions for thousands of folks all over California just how catastrophic it was to find a couple of months later that all services were simply cut-off.

Broadband was terminated and a phone number that had been with the family for 45 years was just disconnected. They would not reconnect it. It was my fault as I did not follow their 'bereavement' process. Funny how the same letter to water, electricity and the local council re council tax resulted in continuation of all services. Just BT being the exception.

I guess they do not have admin. folks that can read anymore. Just talk.

End result: no, I never got reconnected. They insisted I wold need another 'plan' even though it was they that disconnected us (me), and of course, even pay for the disconnection charges. Of course I wanted a new plan when I was selling my mothers house and then returning abroad. No I did not worry abut all the folks that were calling in connection with my mothers demise and could not get through. Makes perfect sense to me. As well as everyone now having a degree in the UK, it seems IQ's have increased substantially in my absence. It's my fault. I have an artificial expectation of service levels. I hope I can adjust soon. I won't talk about the location I was living in also being a 'black-hole' for EM (cell-phones and G3), yet we live 6 miles from Gatwick and 25 miles from the center of London. My American friends are always incredulous over that. The Iron-Lady said Britain was open for business . . . but here we are in the next century and I for one wold say we are not. Do any of you measure your 'broadband' speeds to see what you actually get? Of course, what is the legal definition . . . ha . . . there you go . . . they do not guarantee it. Perhaps id should be called 'narrow' or 'flexible' band since a name should reflect the meaning, right!!

Gosh, this works.

I feel so much better now.

And yet nothing changed.

Well firstly thank you for having a page which allows you to post peoples views, but be aware like the web page "Have a Moan Here /Get it Off your Chest Anonymously!" has now been shut due to peoples views,I hope this site stays open.
I've got two moans for this week, moan number 1, the shop worker who asked a 92 year old for ID because she went to buy a bottle of whiskey. Moan number 2, protesters at St Paul's Cathedral, just give up! you've done nothing, X factor is still on the front page. If you wish to do something give your tent to a homeless person or go on Facebook and ask everyone to come down to St Paul's Cathedral. Boycott X factor on Saturday & Sunday night by standing outside St Paul's Cathedral, you soon make a sound when there's 1000 plus people camping outside St Paul's Cathedral. Spread the word or just go home.

another faceless individual, ripped off by mobile companies

Created: 01/10/2011 01:13:44 | Moan by: Unhappy (Scotland) | Comments: 1
Why is it that these muti-million pound international companies can continue to get away with ripping off us hard working individuals? I go out to work every day, I pay tax, I pay my bills, I am honest and have never taken what doesn’t belong to me and all I ask is that I receive a fair service which I am willing to pay for. However, the providers that I am forced to deal with every day aren’t even able to provide a descent customer service.

It used to be that the customer held all the rights but this is slowly being taken away from each and every one of us. Customer service is no longer what it used to be. I used to work in customer service and we were trained in resolving issues and “wowing” the customer because failure to do that would result in loosing a valued customer. Our training lasted weeks and we were continually given training to ensure we would give an exceptional service.

We are now being redirected to call centres all over the world and dealing with different cultures and even some that don’t even have a good grasp of the English language. How are they expected to deal with our issues when they can’t understand us or even empathise with our situation? I don't blame them, its not their fault they are just trying to earn a living, its the companies that I blame, that do this so that they can cut costs at our expanse!!!!!! We are left helpless and frustrated holding on the line for hours with many that don't even offer a free phone number. This also results on most occasions, in many more repeat calls only to still be unsatisfied with the result. These companies now hold all the control as they can hold you to contract from as long as two years, miserable, frustrated and with no resolution to our problems.

I have recently had several difficult situations with companies such as Sky and BT and given up because I have to go to work and can’t thrash out the issues during working hours which is when they provide their services. However, my most recent encounter is on the verge of pushing me over the edge.

I ordered my new upgrade online through the Vodafone website. The information given was that it would take 9-10 days for delivery and the courier would send a text/email with the delivery date and time. It was not stated the name of the courier that would be delivering the parcel. As soon as I put the order through I received a text message which said :

Your Vodafone order has been delayed and wont be delivered as planned. We will send you another message with a new delivery date when your order is dispatched from our warehouse……

Five days later, I got home to find a courier note stating that I had missed the delivery of a parcel. As it was my birthday and I had ordered a book from Amazon I assumed the parcel was either a birthday parcel or the book. Neither of which would have been of high value. The options on the card for re-delivery were:

a) pay £12 for re-delivery on a Saturday or rearrange delivery for another work day which was not an option as I work full time during the week
b) arrange to pick parcel up on a work day from the nearest depot ( which was Edinburgh a 40 mile round trip and again I work full time so would have to take the day off
c) Leave with a neighbour in the same post code (my neighbour downstairs had past away recently, another was away on holiday and every other one worked during the day too.
d) Leave in a safe place. ( I live in a small village, a front door which is not known about to most who don’t know me as it is down an alleyway and up a flight of stairs not visible from the main road) I have been getting catalogue, parcels and such left in a closed cupboard under the stairs with royal mail and other couriers for last two years and never had a problem.

As I believed the package to be of small value, I went for option d. Had I been informed by Vodafone or the couriers that I was getting delivery of a mobile, I would never have opted for this (I would certainly question why a courier would ever be allowed to give this option for a high value item). I therefore signed to say it was ok to leave in a safe place.

The next day I came home to find a postcard through my door informing me that my parcel had been left in an outhouse with no date, time or contact number on the card. However, there was no sign of a package. The only other mail was a birthday card delivered by royal mail which would have been posted in the morning. No other persons except the post man and the courier would have had cause or reason to come up to my door and certainly no one would have cause to look in or even go near this cupboard. The only person who knew what was in the package was the courier, whom now had my signature to confirm he could leave it in a “safe place” ….

When I couldn’t find the package, I started to phone round to find out who the package may have been from. I found the dpd customer service website and I got an automated service informing me that any delivery disputes had to be taken up with the sender. After finding out the book hadn’t been despatched, I thought that I should rule out the chance that it was the phone, despite being very sure it couldn’t be, so I contacted Vodafone to see who their couriers were. The adviser confirmed that it was DPD and that it was in fact my mobile that had been delivered at 1.15pm despite the fact I had had no correspondence to inform me that it had been despatched by either Vodafone or the Couriers and it was only 5 days since my order (three working days).

The first advisor contacted DPD who spoke to the courier and they informed me that he had definitely delivered the phone and that as I had signed the paperwork to say he could leave it under the stair I didn’t have a leg to stand on. I asked for a contact number for the depot and the name of the courier so that I could get directions as to where he actually did leave it but they refuse to help me and gave me the number which I had already called and got an automated response to take any disputes to the sender ie Vodafone.

So I am now being told by DPD to contact Vodafone and Vodafone to contact DPD. No one at this point is trying to help. I phoned back Vodafone and the advisor told me to call back in the morning and they would start an investigation into the matter. The next morning, while at work, I spoke to an advisor who said he would start the investigation. He took all my contact numbers and told me I would get a call back when they had an answer. I received no call that day.

The next day I called back to get an update and was diverted to a call centre in Egypt. I gave him my reference number and after being kept on hold for 15 minutes he told me he couldn’t locate my order number. He then said that the investigation had been closed and that they would not be doing anything else as my dispute was with DPD and that I would be held to a contract for the next two years. Unsatisfied with his response and frustrated by being spoken to so rudely during the 45 minute call during work hours I called back as soon as I finished work.

She again stated that under no circumstances would I get a new handset sent out but could pay £370 if I wanted another handset and still did not acknowledge any responsibility for their lack of communication over the despatch of the phone. I asked for a call back from a manager, which she promised I would get and as yet am still waiting for that said call, but I doubt very much if I will receive such a call.

I assume that the handset would have a new contract included with the package which obviously I hadn’t received. Does a contract not require a signature to make it valid these days? Certainly if I am taking out insurance for a year they require a signature on a contact sent back to them.

My only other option was to go to the police to report it stolen but I had no proof that this handset which I had never received even belonged to me with no paperwork or email or indeed anything in writing. I am currently seeking legal advice about my legal rights and have written to watchdog, ofcom and every other complaints procedure, as quite frankly, I am no longer willing to sit back and let the big guys win.

This whole issue would be extremely stressful under normal circumstances but I am five months pregnant and extremely emotional at the moment and if I am to endure another stressful conversation with a Vodafone advisor I am going to end up in hospital!!!! I cannot believe I am being held completely responsible for this whole issue.

I am extremely disappointed at Vodafone’s lack of customer service especially as a loyal customer for quite a few years. I would expect such a large company which valued its reputation to at least give some kind of support but it was quite clear that the advisor's had no intention of making any effort to help me resolve this issue. £370 is not a large amount to a huge company such as Vodafone but to me it is a huge amount of money.

After sending my complaint to Vodafone, I received an automated response that they would get back to me. At the bottom of the email, to rub salt into the wound, they offered me an upgrade which would be delivered FREE if I order on-line. You can imagine how this may have irritated me even further.

In addition, DPD, whom do not have good reviews online from its customers, seem to have a very flawed procedure. They don’t even seem to be willing to deal at all with customer complaints and have no contact numbers. They take advantage by expecting people whom actually work to pay £12 for a service that they have already been paid for by Vodafone.

Surely some of the responsibility lies with Vodafone due to the lack of communication that I was about to receive delivery of a high value package! And the ridiculous option to sign to give authority to leave in a safe place gives the delivery drivers a licence to take what they want with no repercussions!!! We have no choice as to which courier’s deliver our packages, yet we are left with dealing with the poor service from them!

It’s all too easy to dismiss someone over the phone. So I am now just another faceless individual, ripped off, with no rights and left to pay money over the next two years for a terrible customer service and no phone to show for it.

I don't like to moan, but I am so fed up at the moment, both myself and my husband work 48 hour weeks, but thanks to the recession and thing's costing more money, no chance of getting a re-mortgage for anything like low enough we have huge bills, I have been trying to find a second full time job, which I can fit in around my current job, my husband is unable to as he works shifts and they change frequently, so here I am looking for jobs, finally find one that would fit in with my current work, in my current lline of work, perfect hours good money, so I apply, that was two weeks ago, have heard nothing, not a dicky bird, am so gutted I really wanted that job, and now i'm sitting here with more things going wrong and more bills piling up and no hope of ever getting on our feet, I have just reached rock bottom and really want to cry, I get paid this week and after all the bills have gone out I will have £9 to feed a family of 6 for the next two weeks, I can't take this anymore.
So sorry to rant but I am just at my witts end, why does everything always go wrong all at the same time? Why do all the bills always come in together, why whenever I feel like I am finally getting somewhere does something big pack up and have to be replaced? It is always the same :-(

Insurance Rip Offs

Created: 06/09/2011 13:21:48 | Moan by: Patricia (Glasgow) | Comments: 1
Last year my husbands car got hit by another car whilst I was driving(husband and kids with me). It was completely the other drivers fault and our claim to his insurance company was settled with no hassle. Great, well done Esure. Not so good is that we now have to renew our insurance and because of the accident my insurance is up by £72 and my husbands £80.00. Why? Apparently because I was driving when the car got hit I am now a greater insurance risk on the road. No previous accidents or convictions no changes except that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time!
I have no option but to look for new insurance but it really annoys me that I always do the correct thing but get penalised for being honest. Moan over!

insurance companies and fraud

Created: 06/06/2011 14:42:14 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 2
Over the last few weeks there have been numerous news articles regarding insurance (car) premiums going up by 40% or so.

The insurance companies are blaming this in the number of insurance frauds that are happening.

This is almost certainly true..

However, the insurance companies are specifically blaming the no-win-no-fees lawyers.

Of course, we all know that these lawyers that advertise all day are cockroaches and are a blight on our lives, but...

This isn’t the whole story.

I have personal experience of insurance companies incompetence which leads to higher premiums.

Firstly, let’s not forget that the insurance companies don’t really give a monkeys about increasing premiums. If they have to charge 40% more this year then so be it – as far as they are concerned. The publics don’t have a choice. Pay up or don’t get insurance.

So let’s not start feeling sorry for them.

Ok, so in my case I had a car which was written off whilst parked on a well light main road.

I wasn’t around – I was tucked up in bed.

The car that hit mine had 3 occupants. The 3 of them got out of the car and tried to move their vehicle as it would have been causing an obstruction. [they] were around the car for more than an hour and a half. They knocked on 2 doors of the houses right next to the accident asking for help.

Taxis were around and were trying to help move it. As the car was wedged in to mine it couldn’t be moved so they took a taxi home – this is all from the people that witnessed the accident. In the end the police had to get it removed.

This was on a Friday night.

I went to the police station and was given the registration number and owner of the vehicle etc. There were no injured people so it wasn’t an issue for the police.

..all good I hoped..

My insurance company took the details and processed everything nice and quickly. My car was a write-off and I was then paid out very quickly – nice one direct line ;-)

A couple of weeks later I received a letter stating that the car was, in fact, stolen! I was surprised at this as the driver and passengers were trying to move it and hung around for so long. I asked the police when it was reported stolen – Oh on the Monday afternoon!! Was the reply. That’s nearly 3 days after the accident.

The police went to interview the people that had seen it, but by then it was so long afterwards that there wasn’t really a great deal they could do. The witnesses wouldn’t be able to 100% identify anyone in a line-up.

So I then spent a long time – I’m talking months and months talking to the other parties insurance company.

The upshot was that I was told that due to the fact that “when the car hit mine it must have been insured as it cannot not have been insured until it was reported stolen”. Fair enough I said.

Then 3 weeks later they changed their minds and said they wouldn’t pay up.

“did you investigate this”, I said? “do you not think this is as dodgy as hell”? “do you really think that you should be letting people off with this type of fraud”? All fell on deaf ears.

As far as the insurance company were concerned it was easier and cheaper to just pay their policy holder off and then tell me to , hmm well, go away.

I had lawyers involved, but they were useless and I had to sack them due to them asking the same questions day in day out. I did more work on this than they did. They didn’t care they were on a nice retainer from the insurance company.

To be fair to the police they did as much as they could. They did a forensic examination of the other car. Result – nothing to report, no obvious sign of break in. What did this show? Well no sign of break in = a key was used. i.e. it was the owner of the vehicle. The police agreed with me, but couldn’t prove anything.

I discussed with the 3rd party insurers and made the comment that if they simply sent a letter to the owner of the vehicle stating that they were not convinced with the story and that unless they admitted the fraud now, it would go to court. This would have done the job in my opinion. Would they do it? Nope, they were happy to close the case and to tell me that I should not post this information anywhere and that I should just take it.

Well NO!!, I won’t.

The insurance company was Highway insurance – which is a subsidiary of LV.com one of the biggest providers. I spoke to a senior manager at the company and they just didn’t care – even though one of the underwriting team had agreed with me that this shouldn’t be allowed to happen and that they would go after their policy holder for payment.

So there you have it;

a/ Your premium is up this year thanks to fraud that goes unchecked
b/ if you want to commit insurance fraud, go to LV.com, take out a policy, hit a car, walk away and you’ll get paid out

The whole thing stinks and is indicative of what goes on at insurance companies.

One thing I would say...of course if there is no way of proving this then it has to be put down to bad luck. But the fact that LV.com were not prepared to even try to get this sorted out and send a message out to insurance fraudsters is just typical of this industry.

I’m going to forward this to LV.com and see what they say. Nothing I expect.

Distance Selling Regulations... Bah F em' We're BT!

Created: 28/03/2011 23:10:48 | Moan by: Anon (Nottingham) | Comments: 2
Ok so this is a massive rant but there are some helpful people at BT and would like to point that out now and tell them that I DO (<- big capital letters = stressing point, not shouting) appreciate the good customer service I received at the hands of those people... none the less a rant is coming....SO here goes!

I got a package of phone, internet and broadband and subscribed over the internet. thinking I would at least be covered by the Distance selling regulations.... here: http://www.oft.gov.uk/about-the-oft/legal-powers/legal/distance-selling-regulations/ and also this is a good one http://www.out-law.com/page-430

Basically it states that there is a 7 day cooling off for services too, as how do you know if a service you buy will live up to the misquoted figures and stats you see on the SALES website?!

I phoned BT nearly as soon as I had set up the equipment and could use my service. (1 hour) I started off by setting up then broadband and then trying to plug in the Vision box and tune the free-view channels. Turns out I can get 3, yes you read that correctly.... 3 more channels than I currently could using the old analogue system. This is partly because I can no longer get channel 5 or four on the digital connection. Luckily I can get Gay rabbit, so I'm all set. <- sarcasm doesn't come across as well in type.

Anyway I phoned up BT and spoke to someone. he helped a great deal by walking me through the booklet I had already followed to get the 8 channels. Nothing resolved.

The next day I decided to phone to cancel under the Distance selling regulations (DSR's (mentioned earlier))

Darren in the cancellations department answered the phone after some unnamed person transferred me from Scotland (his accent gave it away) to India.
In all honesty I'm glad he did.

*slight diversion and praise for BT rep*

The Indian gentle man I spoke to was very nice and helpful and apologised for my being transferred without being told about my need to be transferred. At this point I had a problem with the line I was on and it cut out... but the Indian fellow called me back! how good is that! AWESOME! he then went one step further and transferred me back to the department that fobbed me off in the first place! HA!

*diversion over*

So on to the new guy... After a lengthy conversation I managed to get my BT Vision cancelled due to lack of service and general shiteness. I figured that that was it. done. so I thanked him. BUT NO!

Apparently my package of phone broadband and TV in one* neat little sales package is 3 separate products entirely under different regulation and governance.

*(TO BT - one product... I view this as one product... if I didn't get this one product from YOU, I would've gone with virgin or sky for this ONE product)

Now they want to split it up.... I didn't sign on for this. I singed on for a sale covered by DSR's that gave me the things it promised. 50+ channels, 20mb broadband, free calls at weekends. this is the stuff I wanted and if you mother funglers provided it, not a peep you would've heard from me... Alas.

So onwards and upwards to the "services":

After dealing with BT this is what I believe their terms and conditions should say: "Up to" is a generic term which actually means - "we can give you what ever number below this, it is not an actual figure unless you happen to be in the smallest possible region in probably London right next to our BT office, where the broad band connection goes 1mm down the road to our super hub, which we use only for advertising purposes of possible connection speeds.

In actuality the speed i get from my advertised 20Mb broadband is 3.3Mb.

Anyway after Darren astounded me with not being able to answer simple questions like what should my upload speed be.

I quoted the DSR's to him and he pointed me to the BT terms and conditions which are so muddled up together with other products you cant make heads or tails over which one you've actually subscribed to. Needless to say we had disarrangements. I can return equipment apparently, including my broadband router (<- equipment), which would take away my service, but not my service. does that make any sense?!

so... My "20Mb SUPER FAST" (<-- deliberate quotes) broad band (here I would also like to point out it took 3 weeks for some one to come and make it work after purchase) according to Darren, would only be able to reach a maximum of 4Mb. Where did this four come from? I did a search on the BT website after all this and it STILL says that for my post code NOW I can get 7. Look beggers cant be choosers and if i am really not allowed to return this service then where the hell is my twice as fast as what i am currently getting grossly mis-advertised 7?! I realise that in my welcome letter it says it should speed up after 10 days... but double in speed?! Pah! Actually what i thin k this translates as is - after waiting 10 days your DSR rights will have run out so HA!

Anyway after telling Darren that I though that this rule was a "bit of a cheek" he felt that we were going round in circles and escalated my call to his manager. I asked him if I needed to put this in writing (Ofcom and Direct Gov informed me I should, so I did, in email, another DSR which recently got ruled on by an EU court after purchase was performed on the internet giving the right to use email as a written binding form of communication) but he said that I wouldn't need to as he was forwarding my case on to his manager who would listen to this call and respond within 4 days.

so its 4 days later now... no call.

Where are you in calling me back?! You have shut by now as its 10 o'clock in the evening, you have probably gone home to bed and are now, most likely, tucked up nice and snug in your warm bed thinking of all the people you didn't phone!!!!

This is proper GASH! on top of all the stress of moving to a new city, starting a new job and renting a new house, you lay this LIE on me, Yes LIE, why tell me my broadband will be super fast if it wont? why tell me I can receive 50+ channels when i wont?! that the only thing i will get as advertised, is a phone line. stick to what your good at. just stay British Telecom and do us all a fucking favour!!!!

BT - disgruntled customers

Created: 28/03/2011 19:07:27 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 4
I have started this thread as a place for people to moan about the service levels they are NOT receiving from BT.

I will place a fuller moan later on, but wanted to start this quickly.

England WC cricket #fail

Created: 28/03/2011 09:47:46 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Oddly enough, I’m not moaning about the actual result on Saturday.

Ok yes it was a shocker. A 10 wicket defeat doesn’t happen often especially when it doesn’t involve one of the so-called minnow teams. The minnows that mostly beat England.

No, this moan is about the amount of cricket those chaps out in the sub-continent have had to play.

Considering that the bulk of the team left the UK in October 2010 and returned to the UK for about 7 days before flying out to India.

You can’t expect anyone to be at the top of their game either mentally or physically after such a schedule.

The goal was to win the Ashes and we did it. Why did we end of playing 7 one dayers against the Aussies as well as some Twenty20?

If we were committed to that schedule for TV reasons then we should have flown out a second 11 to play them. If we had done that we could have prepared better for the WC and had a good go at it.

I think Strauss did a great job in trying to keep the WC going, but he was let down by the money grabbers at the ECB and the ICC.

Spanish airtraffic controllers

Well that's a lovely touch by the Spanish airtraffic workers (using the term loosely).

The Spanish government need to sort these idiots out. The bottom line is that they do this type of thing every year.

It's a right to strike, of course, but sometimes these European governments really let the people take the p*ss.

What's it all about this time? Probably been told they can't drink 3 double brandies during their 3 hour lunch break.

Maybe they are worried about having to work until they are 48? Perhaps the 27 bank holiday days they get are not quite enough.

Either way - your country is financially f***ed and the one business you still have is tourism. Or rather, the business you used to have.

Get a grip you.........[removed this myself....].....

Happy holidays

Libya evacuation

Firstly, just to make it clear, I feel very sorry for the Brits that are stranded in Libya. It must be a really awful ordeal and certainly a dangerous situation.

The thing is, though, Libya is a pretty dangerous place anyway. If you decide to take the $money$ then you have to accept that your situation is a little bit down to your choices.

It’s mostly oil workers left there and they are earning a big whack of cash and – it’s free of UK income tax.

It does, therefore, seem a little ironic that the UK taxpayer has to use its resources to rescue non-tax paying Brits.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t go and get them, of course, but the irony is not lost on me.

I am so sick of moaning! Moan moan moan...........about peoples attitudes, manners, the crap on TV, noise, telephone banking, the inland revenue, family, other peoples misguided notion of 'advice', every special occasion that Clinton's has designed a card for, peoples perception of dogs in general, how filthy the streets are, the foul mouthed youth, housing developments on the last bit of open land............I could go on but it seems a futile effort here.....Effort I should probably save in order to prevent the screams of 'What ever happened to common sense? Can't you just think for yourself for once! or more to the point let us think think for ourselves!' Keep your policies and procedures, BBC Broadcasting, before and after pictures of fat people, your sugar coated version of life as we know it and cock off! Lovin Life...........

poor drivers

I'm getting really sick and tired of inconsiderate drivers.

Not just the prat that pulls out in front of you, annoying as they are.

I'm talking about the "institutional" sh*t drivers.

Taxi drivers are right at the top. Listing you idiots, you journey is NOT more important than mine and YES I will just crash in to you if you try and cut in front - no seriously, I WILL crash in to you.

Delivery drivers. I drive down one of the busiest commuter routes in to the centre of town on a daily basis and today...A guy delivering building materials just pulls up outside a house. He slams his hazard lights on and then thinks that's fine. I was lucky as I was right behind and only had to wait a while to get past, but god knows what the jam looked like 5 minutes later.

FFS, don't be such ar*eholes!!. Company concerned "Kellaway Building Supplies". I buy quite a lot of stuff from there..never again!! selfish b*stards.

Ok you have to deliver, everyone knows that, but do it after the rush hour. I would like to hire a truck and deliver something right across the end of your road in the morning - so that you can't inflict your non-educated, brain dead persona on other poor souls.

He looked like quite a big bloke, but luckily enough he won't be bright enough to use a computer so no danger.

Post Office Rules!

We live three miles inside County Durham and pay our council tax to Durham Council but we have a Newcastle upon Tyne post code. Why?? Because some Post Office idiot decided that the postal bounderies should be changed. I have no idea what the reasoning behind this was.
However, because of this, we are penalised by having to pay much higher house and car insurance.
THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!!

I am in the process of moving, currently I reside in the London borough of Southwark and pay council tax there, I have bought a house in the London borough of Lewisham and havent moved in yet as the house is being refurbished.
Lewisham were very quick off the mark in presenting me with my council tax bill for the remainder of the year (without knowing my full circumstances), I am single so therefore should receive a 25% discount. They arranged this and I also told them that I dont live there yet.
Apparently exemption for Council tax is linked to the property and not the person, so i am paying council tax in Southwark and at Lewisham as well and to top it all because i have just declared that my moving date has been put back due to delays i have just lost my 25% discount too.
So there you have it, you pay council tax in both boroughs when you only reside at one property at the moment and lose your discount becasue you havent moved in yet.
How ludicrous is that and because Lewisham Council records its phone calls (for training purposes) I cannot take back the fact that I said my moving date has been delayed.
Big Brother watches!
Big Brother listens!
Big Brother takes and takes!

Welcome to RIP OFF Great Britain people!!!

Liberal Democrat MP's

Right, the general moaning that’s going around is that the Liberals should stick to their pledges to not support the increases in tuition fees.

Well, actually I don’t agree with this.

They signed up with the tories to form a government. A government of compromise which is what the country really needed. Everyone could take a balanced view.

Now these muppets decided to agree to this and in to power they went. This is the most power the Liberals have had in a generation and – thanks to their stupidity – they won’t be getting any more power for another generation, assuming they actually survive as a party.

Whether this policy is over tuition fees is right or wrong they HAVE to support it. If they vote against it, the David Cameron should go back to the people for another general election. This would mean a Conservative government and all that this entails.

There’s a Liberal MP in my constituency – but I won’t vote for him again (he’s a potential rebel).

Enjoy the moment in the limelight you yellow bellied Liberals. You’ll all be out of a job in 4 years, if not sooner.

I would really like to get some fed back please. I left my ex partner 3 and a half years ago after suffering for 13 years of domestic abuse! I have never hit her and absolutely do not believe in hitting a woman (I saw my step father being violent to my mother and swore i would never repeat this behaviour! mY ex would hit kick, thump throw things and stab me with wotevr was at hand. This would happen for any answering back, snoring, little bit late home from work, reading, wathcing tv. Anything! I have two daughters who are now teenagers. They often cuaght the aftermath of her violence and hav witnessed me pushing her away, and sometimes restraining her to try to stop the attacks! My ex would often suggest that she has had affairs and would occasionally throw me out to pursue her affairs. I would forgive her so I could be with my children and in my home and wot was what i thought was normality. I have always worked and paid for everything for the family. My ex refused to work so I often held down two jobs to make ends meet. I would do housework inbetween my jobs becuase I just couldnt live with a messy un kept home. My ex never made a babys bottle! As i said I left my ex. at that time I felt she was seeing somebody else! I did not accuse her (avoiding further attacks of verbal put downs and abuse) however I did watch during times of being around her. I worked day and night to meet the houdehold costs. During evenings on of my best frinds would often visit her and I felt safe this was ok. However i began to realise that things between them were strange(Body language, giggling when i left the room etc) I didnt accuse i just decided watch and I eventually decided to leave to get out of the nightmare I was living. When I left i had no money to just simply afford another place so I moved in with a mate from work. there was not enough room for much in his spare room so I only took my items for my job (Laptop) and my clothes and my car! I left all the furniture and personal possesions. I never intended to take furniture because i didnt want to deprive my children of it. A few months after I left she decided to tell me that she had been having an affair with my friend and was moving him in. I was not happy as he had been my best friend since Junior school. I felt betrayed and angry as he had alcohol problems and did not feel he should be around my children. I knew there was very little I could do so I set about getting my own place and getting my nerves and mind back to where they should be. I meet a new partner ( who is lovely to me) we married and are very happy. My children regularly visit and I pay regular child maintenance for them. Her relationship with my friend did not last as he was constantly fouling the bed through too much alcohol and other disgusting behaviour! My ex has gone on to meet another man who seem s to be a decent man. They are about to move in togther and i have recently asked for my personal, sentimental things back. things like my tools, childhood photographs, fishing equipment, birthday and christmas presents from my family etc (Not Furniture) Since I have asked I have had verbal abuse from her telling me no and that i am mental! Indeed I am upset about this as I feel why should she have anything personal of mine. She never worked and she and her new partner are too benefit from my hard work and dedication for 13 years. My daughters have also become bitter towards me for asking. Ive tried to explain but they seen as if they have been well rehursed to what to say. Also my daughters often complain that they have no money. The often have pocket money off me. More recently I have told them to ask their mother for money as she is in receipt of child benefits, maintenace, tax credit and now works full time. Her new partner also works and it appears to me that the maintenance I pay does not benefit them as they ask me for items such as sanitary items ect! I feel as if ive spent my whole adult life trying my best and now had it all taken away by a selfish, manipulative and controlling woman! My children have also started saying that i was the one that fought with their mum. Ive tried to explain that they just saw me defending constant attacks. However, this falls on deaf ears. I am a decent man who has done my best for my children. Ive put up with alot only to have everything taken away! WHAT CAN i DO?

World Cup 2018

Created: 03/12/2010 09:24:50 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Ok, got to have a moan about the World Cup I suppose ;-)

The fact that [we] haven’t got it isn’t the moan really. Would have been nice. Probably the only chance most people will have to see England play in a WC etc etc..

The thing is, why do we always have to run away and cry like babies when things don’t go our way? All we are doing is ensuring that next time we make a pitch for a big sporting event, we won’t get it.

If I was one of the voting members, I would now be thinking..”yeah I’m glad I didn’t vote for England”. It would have been better for us to have these people thinking, “actually, England would have been good and they’ve taken it very well. I’ll vote for them next time.”

All this rubbish that’s coming out today about having to change the rules and it’s a disgrace the way this was done... This is sour grapes. We didn’t get the WC, we have the Olympics. One of out 2 ain’t bad – and we did have the European football in 1996.

student demos against cuts

Created: 26/11/2010 10:29:11 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Everyone has a right to a peaceful demonstration. This is what we fought for many years ago and the right should be protected at all costs. This right is the envy of most of the population of the world.

However, I really don’t get what and why these students are protesting about.

The facts are;

*University/ higher education is not a right FFS
*It’s not compulsory to go to Uni.
*If you do you have a good chance of earning more money
*If you don’t earn more money then you want pay the fees

Now if the cuts were brought in half way through a degree then it may be a different story as students would have budgeted to leave University with X debt. This isn’t the case, though.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT DON’T GO !! simple as that.

Blocking off the roads (Bristol) causing chaos for the general population is not the sort of thing that should be allowed. In Bristol we have The Downs. Loads of open space..go and protest there.

The bulk of those present are rent-a-mob and I for one would love to see the police just clear the area. Whack a few of these idiots and then nick anyone that complains. A criminal record for breach of the peace wouldn’t go down too well with mummy and daddy in Islington.

I’m going to hold a peaceful protest this weekend. This will involve arguing with students and then belting them if given the chance. Or I might get a mob together and go and blockade the local student ale-house – which would then lead on to belting them.

Could be a great weekend on reflection.

Whether I believe in these cuts and whether it’s fair isn’t the point. One thing for sure though…The tax-payer shouldn’t be paying for fecking “Tarquin” to do a 3 year degree in the history of Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Pay for it yourself you lilly livered ponse.

Waterboarding

I notice all the do gooders in the uk,are now condeming the use of torture of war criminals to extract information to stop acts of terror being carried out against us, these same people who exist behind the curtain of freedom that our armed forces provide ,and the same people who sit at home and watch on the tv our sevicemen, women and civilian workers being beheaded and tortured on national tv and streamed over the internet for all to see ,these people who are also responsible over the last twenty years or so with there pathetic lobbying have slowly removed all the powers from our parents, our teachers , our police officers ,and still we dont understand why the crime rate in this country goes up and up,Get Real , we have school teachers being stabbed outside schools and assulted in class rooms for christ sake. Parents afraid to chastise their children(and note the word THEIR children) through fear of their child reporting them to the authorities ,even though they've just mugged some old dear on her way home from the bingo, and then police officers that cannot do anything but caution them, when it should be a clip round the ear from the officer and a good hiding off dad when they drop them off,now i do not condone violence , to hit anyone out of anger is wrong and always will be, but to chastise a child who is an out of control thug is warranted ,some of the older generation had child rearing correct and did not overstep the mark ,the people who have lobbied for the changes have not come from council estates where gangs roam free and people are afraid to go out at night.they need to understand that it's a whole other world. A world that they have created by removing powers from the people that count.so tonight when you lie down in your beds with your doors locked and your alarm activated and our servicemen and women protecting our shores ,Turn your Mind to This Country's Real Wars that need to be fought . POWERS BACK TO THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER(their our children), TERROR(our armed forces know what there doing and will do everything to protect us) and Finally IMMIGRATION(stop inviting people in, we have got enough homeless in this country already, who were born here ,Sort your own house before you can help others, and these hate mobs that spit and curse our armed forces when they return from protecting us, deport them, they obviously hate our country and what it stands for ,so why are they here, send them somewhere where they will be happy, i summise they would soon shut up,because they know we have become a country of soft touches, so a pat on the back for all do gooders, your losing us our country, yipee

Nice to see the firemen are planning to go on strike again.

Really got the pulse of the people - NOT !!!

So they are planning bonfire night? - a big thanks from all of the parents of children looking forward to events.

I believe this is about work conditions right? shift patterns etc?

I can see why they are upset. After all this will play havoc with their 2nd jobs. How are they supposed to plan a whole weeks worth of building work when the won't know which days/ nights they are needed - by the tax payer.

It's about time these clowns relaised that they have one of the only jobs left where having zero qualifications is actually a benefit. They earn a good whack for about 2 hours work per week.

Yeah they put their live on the line, but let's be honest, there's about 1,000 applications for each job so easily replaced.

child benefit taken away

Created: 06/10/2010 14:28:00 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
So the con/lib pact are going to take away child benefit for higher rate tax payers.

In an ideal world (which we aint in) this universal benefit would stay - of course.

But, this does seem like a wholly reasonable thing to do, given the state of the public finances.

The media have rolled out the only example they have - 2 people earning just less than the higher rate V's the single earner just over the threshold. This will be very rare and how else are [they] supposed to do it.

Would these moaners prefer an increase in tax rates instead?

This is a very brave thing to do by the coalition and I support them in this. I'm a labour man myself, but this type of progressive solution will certainly swing me around.

For those that don't like it...it's a few quid a month...If you don't like it..go and live in a different country you moaning muppets.

Re: ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND
I phoned the bank today to sort out a direct debit payment. I am baffled to find that although it is the 4th of September my account statement runs into the future and payments for the 6th of sept have already been taken from my account. the money in the account on friday was to be used for family shopping and because the bank have allowed FUTURE PAYMENTS TO BE TAKEN FROM THE ACCOUNT TWO DAYS EARLY, my family consisting of my husband and my two young children will now have no food over the weekend and i will have the embaressment of having to go to my in-laws to ask to borrow £150 until you have sorted out my account for monday. As I already have 2 unresolved customer complaints with you where you have not even had the courtesy to reply and have been given ample time, (although with your track record I assume your customer complaints dept is the busiest in the whole of your organisation). I therefore feel that with generous tax payers like myself bailing your bank out when you were in financial difficulty, to be treated in this appalling manner having to go to beg money from my family so that my two small children don't starve over the weekend is appalling, I think this type of behaviour should be in the domain of the general public and since I have had no respect from you i am sending another set of bank balances and complaint forms to the financial ombudsmen showing todays date and the two payments that have been taken out in advance, i think the general public and national media should be reading about your treatment of customers and how I have had to go and grovel to my husbands family so that my children have food until monday, considering the general publics view of your company being one of the main banks that needed bailing out by the tax payer, it is a different story when one of your tax payersasks for help with £150 over two days. I know you will try to blame the direct debit companies and put the blmae onto them but I have considered this aspect and will be focussing the attention on my two small children and the fact that despite £1300 going into my account every month for the last four years you were unwilling to even offer a temporary overdraft facility of £150 over two days. I am only making you aware of my intentions because the financial ombudsmen has said that in order to complain to them about you I have to submit a complaint to you first, i did tell them it would be a waste of time because you never deal with your customer complaints anyway.

Noisy Kids in Restuarants

Created: 02/09/2010 13:28:35 | Moan by: Chris H (http://ihatethecretinousgym.blogspot.com/) | Comments: 0
We've all been a restaurant, trying to have a nice adult or romantic meal, and there's a family with small kids in there aswell. Now, I don't have a problem with well behaved children and their parents having a nice quiet civilized meal together. Even a little bit of childish excitement is ok, as long as they don't go too mad. But parents who use a meal out in a restaurant as an excuse to stop being a parent for a few hours really wind me up, more so than the children.

Letting their kids scream and shout, and in the worst case, run about the place screaming. Not only does it ruin everybody else's meals, it's not fair on the staff that have to carry around numerous plates of hot food that they should be dodging kids running around their feet. Or have to stop them from making mischief and take them back to their parents. You know that if one of these kids runs into a waiter/waitress who is carrying a hot plate of food and they drop it on a kids head, the parent is going to go absolutely mental and sue for as much as they can, when their kids comes running back to the table covered in someones chicken soup.

Numerous times I've been tempted to stick out a leg and trip over a child who is running past my table. Or give them a gentle push that knocks them off course and sends them into the floor. That'll teach them. (Calm down, I said tempted, not actually seriously considered it!) Don't deny that you haven't wanted to do it! Harvester's are the worst. I know its a family restaurant, but that does not mean its a child care centre. The waiters/waitresses are employed to take orders and serve food, not look after kids.

My solution, kids should be assessed upon entering the restaurant, if they are deemed to be calm and adult like, they can enter, if they walk in screaming or come running in, they should be sent back out again. Either that or no kids under the age of 10 in any restaurants. Go to Macdonalds if you want to let your kids run around and create mischief. Don't ruin restaurants for the rest of us.

Double Glazing Windows
New look Home Improvements
17 New Bridge Street
Ayr, KA7 1JX
GB
I had Jim Gillon round to quote me happy! Which he did
He came back and I agreed to a price (as I have a computer company he need a laptop I agreed a laptop and a printer as final payment) I paid Jim all the money apart from the laptop or £450 worth.
I had 7 Windows and a French door fitted on the first of June 2010 , apart from not putting enough insulation round the windows the guys fitting the windows were great and very quick!.
I had paid for the windows apart from a laptop or £450.
After the windows had been installed I inspected them, one of the windows I had stated on ordering had to be an escape window to a flat roof ,and being a Fire-fighter it is an easy escape point in the event of fire.
The window had to be big enough for everyone to escape.
The window that was fitted had a 300mm opening, not a 700mm as stated.
Also the French doors had dropped and the right hand door couldn't open without scoring the bottom plastic.
I contacted Jim Gillon about it and he said it would not be a problem. He gave me a date of three weeks 20 June to get a new window and fitted.
A month passed, He said he had trouble getting someone to fit it for him, and he would try and get someone soon.
At this point I had fully renovated our house and carpets were going down.
I hadn’t plaster boarded the window in our bedroom; I thought it pointless if Jim was going to rip the window out.
We waited 2 weeks till the 12 July Jim asked me if I know of a local firm who would fit the window for him! I gave him a number of a local joiner and left it at that.
He phoned back saying he couldn’t get the joiner and was going to send up the new window.
17 June the window arrived.
Jim phoned on the 19 June asking if I had the window, He also told me he still could not get a hold of a joiner and if I know of anyone else.
To be honest I lost the rag with him on the phone and told him if he can’t complete the job he isn’t getting his £450.
He started having a go and ranting and raving on the phone, I hung up on him, He phoned me back; He said out of good will he would get the window fitted and get the joiner to look at my door, and put the laptop or £450 down to a bad experience.
He then sent a text message saying "Clearly there was no intention to supply a laptop and stung once again”.
I was a bit taken back by this as that was not my intention
I had waited for a month and nothing back from Jim.
My wife was doing her dinger because the bedroom had not been finished and it looked like a DIY mistake, so Yesterday 20 August I got a joiner and paid him myself £145 to put the window in and fix the French door.
Having had to get the job done myself it had cost me time, planning and money.
Today I got an Invoice from Jim Gillon, the invoice says
"For supply and fit of replacement Upvc windows and patio doors for Property at our address" balance £383 vat £67.03 total £450.03.
The Invoice had no Invoice number on it!
I also got a text message saying "Can you please advise your intentions regarding the £450 that was taken off your invoice in lieu of the laptop and printer that have not been supplied. Thank You
As an unhappy customer I will report him to trading standards Deduct £150 for the joiner and £200 for my time and send him a Cheque for £100.
At the end of the day I don’t want any trouble and the windows and doors are good.
Just the contractor was at fault.

Ok, 99.9% of the UK population won't be supporting Germany tonight. We all know this and it's just the way that it is, but..

Did the BBC really have to "do a piece" on the "..we hate Germany.." angle this morning on prime time news slot.

Loads of morons being interviewed with crass comments like "..yeah well they bombed my grandad.." and the like.

I'm sure the BBC will claim that it was just a bit of fun - but it's hardly the message that we want circumnavigating the earth is it? The BBC news goes out to many countries and it just seems a bit demeaning all round.

What can you say..

Shocking WC for England. Players let themselves down and the Manager, quite obviously, didn't carry the dressing room with him.

The players looked quite comfortable with the fact that they were going home.

Where do we go from here? Well I think Chris Waddle has sumed up the mood of the nation on BBC radio. Have a look for it - he cares more than the whole of the England setup I think.

In fact I called this moan ENGLAND WC - and to be honest it was WC as in toilet !!!

Rubbish. All we need now is Andy Murray to win Wimbledon and it will be one of the worst sporting summers I can remember ;-)

Garlic Eaters

Created: 19/06/2010 11:15:23 | Moan by: Jacky (derby) | Comments: 0
Why do people eat garlic?

Because they:

1. like smelling like a sewer?

2. don't like people sitting next to them on public transport?

3. use their breath to ward off evil spirits?

4. use their breath as an early warning device when shopping?

5. think it makes them smell nice?

6. believe it is good for them?

7. are antisocial?

8. have bad breath or B.O.and garlic masks the smell.

7. believe this is the new deodorant "the smell of garlic breath"

8. think it will ward off vampires?

If someone said to you, "put this in your food and I guarantee that you will smell like a sewer for several days"
would you do that? Nobody in their right mind would do such a thing; but garlic eaters do!

Maybe they have read somwhere that garlic is "good for you" ie: some scientist
somwwhere fed rats on it for years and extended their lifespan by a few seconds.

O.K so it may improve the taste of certain foods, but then so does salt but that does'nt make you stink for days.

Do garlic eaters ever have a bath or shower, use deodorant or soap, etc?
I assume they have a shower etc. so that they don't smell, so why eat garlic and stink.
Self imposed B.O. is what I call it.

All non garlic eaters should cease to wash, bathe, change their socks etc then we could
inflict our smell on them and see how they like it.

It only takes one garlic eater to get on the bus for the whole vehicle to stink.

There is nothing worse than a garlic eater who sits behind me on the bus
and spends the journey breathing down my neck, ughhhh!

I think anyone smelling of garlic should be refused any form of public transport.

I don't want you on my bus

Don't eat garlic!!!

What a total disaster the queens square showing of the england game.

I didn't go but know people that did. most of them didnt even get in!!

The bars were about 20 deep and the bar staff didnt have the foresight to pour pints to sell - basic muppetry AGAIN!!

Capacity 11,000 - people in...8,000 plus thousands outside that couldn't get in.

Guy from the council on the telly giving it the large b*llshit, when the reality is/was that the council couldn't organise a p*ss up in...well a park.

Manchester didn't have any issues.

I tell you what - you wouldn't want any of these labour leadership contenders as your best mate, that's for sure.

David Milliband yesterday, stating all the reasons why labour lost. "we didn't listen", "we didn't have acohesive plan".

Errm, David, why didn't you say this before the election then? it was big bad Gordons fault wasn't it? Well you WERE the foreign secretary and, therefore, a senior member of the labour party you muppet, so some of the blame is down to you - and now you want to be the boss?

uk election - job done

well well well. I was expecting to be moaning about some dodgy "rainbow" coalition today, but old nick clegg seems to have done the right thing.

I'm not a conservative supporter - never have been, but it strikes me as right and just that [they] get a go at running the country. The liberals could have scuppered this, but they stuck to their guns after what their leader had said about "...working with the party that secured the most votes and seats"

All I can moan about, then, is the BBC's coverage last night. We had helicopters flying overhead, has-beens commentating on what might (or might not) be happening about "hand kissing".

All in all it was more like the funeral of a monarch than a new Prime Minister.

And I missed Holby City because of it ;-)

Poor Whitney :(

Whitney Houston played her first live gig in the UK yesterday and was boo'ed off by her fans.

The quality of her vocals and an extended costume change angered impatient fans. Even her brother had to take over to keep fans entertained while they waited.

Oh come on whitney sort yourself out! Its a huge shame as she was so talented and beautiful back in the 80s and 90s.

She should really just give up performing until she gets back to normal.

I quite like the election. It's even decent TV on the actual night, but...

Already every single news report is about the darn thing.

Ok, so I enjoy it, but the facts are;

about 50% of people actually vote.
Of this 50%, there is something like 10-15% that are actual floating voters.

So 45 million potential voters. 50% vote = 22 million pople. 10% are floating = 2.2million.

So all of the tv, radio, newspapers, online media for the next month is aimed at just 2.2 million people!!

More people watch flippin Hollyoaks ;-)

What goes through the minds of mens trousers "makers"? Why do they have to make the pockets out of tissue paper and stitch them in with the weakest thread money can buy.

I got a few new pairs about 3 weeks ago and one of them has lost it's posket already.

Note to the "makers", men carry money, keys and other bits and bobs like lighters. These items go through pockets like a knife through butter.

Make the pockets out of decent material and use a good stitch.

Get's right on my nerves - I must lose hundreds of quid through these darn holes.

ITV to axe The Bill

Created: 27/03/2010 11:27:25 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
I'm not a huge fan of the bill. I watched it for a while back in the 90's but it wasn't exactly on my schedule.

However, ITV cutting it out of the schedules later in the year means what? Well it's going to be more celebrity cup washers or something just as inane.

The way we are going, we are going to end up like the US where we have 100's of channels, but no content.

I like the way the ITV bosses call this one:

"Whilst The Bill will come to an end in 2010, we will continue to invest more in drama programming than any other commercial broadcaster in the UK," said Fincham.

Errm "other commercial broadcasters" !!! so that's who exactly? Dave? The roulette channel?

Roll on "celebrity toilet cleaners on ice"

The budget hasn't been announced yet, but it's so obvioust what's going to happen...and it's disgraceful. Why can't the government actually do what's right for the country instead of using it as a general election winner.

Whether I agree with these policies is not important, but it's the cynical nature of them that I think is disgusting.

50% tax rate. Hits voters that wouldn't vote for labour anyway.

stamp duty holiday - aimed at young voters

bit of tax on petrol - aimed at green voters and will be sold as "it's not too bad honestly"

bit of help for families - aimed at middle england voters

On the odd occasion that I’m not sat behind my desk or maybe I’m off work with the flu or something – I’ve seen this Jeremy Kyle show.

It’s rubbish, no need to say anymore.

The moan, though, is the fact that ITV have let this rubbish run for 1000 episodes.

Why don’t ITV just rerun some old wrestling footage from the 1970’s or something – it’s got about the same amount of genuine content.

Here’s NOT to another 1000 episodes. I prefer to have a blank screen on to this carp.

It's a shame for David Beckham that he's crocked himself a few motnhs before the world cup.

I reckon he would have been on the plane and would have made history (4th WC etc), but the news today is all about the "hit" to the England world cup campaign.

I would have played Beckham in a number of the games, but I genuinly don't think Capello would have done. Beckham might have played in a game which we had already won - or we had no chance of winning (in a last gasp bid).

I don't think it will make much difference to England and its chances of winning the cup.

council tax (specifically Bristol)

Created: 12/03/2010 09:02:33 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Got home from work yesterday and found the new council tax bill for the year.

Now everyone knows that the council have stuff they need to do and pay for. Not a problem. The bills are high, but that's the price you pay for living in the UK.

My issue, however, is that they want an increase again this year.

The breakdown shows an increase in all areas from Policing right through.

Why!!??

I thought there was a pay freeze for starters. Last year (which they must base the budgets on) had zero inflation so there shouldn't be too much increase in the materials they buy.

So where the hell is this increase coming from?

This year we will see cuts in ALL public services. Rightly or wrongly, it has to happen...so how come we get to pay even more for fewer services.

Sometimes logic just defies belief.

ITV - tonight show about the internet

Created: 05/03/2010 11:45:18 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Last nights "special" report was about the internet. It was telling us about the 10 million people that don't currently use the internet and how they are being left behind, blah, blah, blah.

All very well and interesting - in a yawn'ing sort of ITV way.

Problem is ; they featured a company who were setting up a web site to promote a farming business. Good luck to them and all that.

Here's the problem though - the guy that set it up presented it to them and showed them how they were top of the google search results. I think the term was "farm shop Leicester".

Great job I thought - although the search term was pretty loose.

Hold on though - they are top YES!! But, it's in the paid search results (sponsored adverts). Now this is conning the people out there that think you can just put a web site up and rank at number one on day one.

This is a paid-for ad. I could rank for this term if I paid for the advert.

ITV this is, at best, poor form and misleading to small businesses who think they can change their businesses over night with a web site. You can't. It takes a while and you need to invest either money or man hours.

winter olympics

I have quite enjoyed the winter Olympics. Last nights mens ice-hockey final was fantastic.

What annoys me slightly, though, is the idea that we [team GB] have underperformed and should have won more medals.

Ok, say the pundits, we don’t have snow and mountains, but we could build some indoor rinks for speed skaters etc etc.

Well this is great in theory, but it’s all got to be paid for!! As a nation we compete at the highest level in everything from football to cricket. We have a shot at the rugby world cup, we surprise (sometimes) at the summer Olympics. We, through the lottery, sponsor table tennis players, small-bore shooters – and the list goes on and one.

We have to look at the winter Olympics and say, “it would be nice to win a few things, but we can’t keep paying for everything”. Let’s concentrate on the football, the cricket, the rugby, the tennis, the summer Olympics, the swimming, the darts, the snooker etc etc.

Would it make any difference to anyone if we had won a bronze medal in one of these obscure winter events?

Portsmouth FC

Firstly, got to feel sorry for the fans. It's not their fault this club has been run in to the ground.

However, something stinks about this situation.

Portsmouth FC could have gone in to administration at any time. All this means is that the creditors won't get paid. This will be the little guys. The guys selling pies to the club or car-parking services or stationary - you get the picture. These guys are out of pocket now.

The directors of the club have, in my opinion, waited to see how the team performed on the pitch.

They now see that the club is so far from safety that they won't stay up. What do they do? They go in to administration and take a 10 point penalty which means - absolutely nothing!!

The football league should take this 10 point penalty next season when Portsmouth are already in the next division down.

All this has done is leave small companies out of pocket - nothing else. 10 point penalty is irrelevant.

This makes me sick and I hope (no offence to the supporters) that the club stays in the championship (or worse) and never gets back to the top flight.

I was amazed today to see that the press are focussing on the manager, Mancini and asking him about his position!!

The concern about binge drinking and the new laws to shut premises down, increase taxes on alcohol, stop supermarkets selling cheap booze, all because of the morons who cannot go out, have a good night out and enjoy themselves without becoming violent, comotosed or a general pain in the arse. The answer is to deal with the idiots, not punish everyone. It's the easy way out because this country can't punish the idiots because we have too many to deal with. I believe alcohol brings out the real personality, idiot sober and you become a bigger idiot with achohol. We are breading a society of idiots because of a lack of respect starting at school. Bring back corporal punishment in schools not a society of "what you gonna do about it". Human rights and do gooders are breading comtempt to what rules we have left. I am increasingly hearing this term coming from broadcasters, particularly radio 1 later in the day (Mention no names) and it is spreading to other areas of broadcasters and celebrities. This really gets annoying; they are words that just don't go together. For the benefit of non believers here is the usage note from the free online dictionary "The compound preposition off of is generally regarded as informal and is best avoided in formal speech and writing: He stepped off (not off of) the platform. Off is informal as well when used to indicate a source: formal style requires I borrowed it from (not off) my brother.

Lots of cars slipping around. Helicopter fly passes. Stranded old ladies.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Why though, when the general opinion of all of the experts etc is "Do NOT travel unless your journey is absolutely vital", do the BBC need to place a reporter at the side of every dangerous road in the UK.

IS this a "vital journey"? of course not - so why flippin do it. This advise is for everyone and that includes the dopey BBC crews.

This is a moan on behalf of all virgin broadband customers.

Apparantly ALL broadband in the Bristol area has not been working for the 36 hours. Something to do with a cable being cut or something.

Obviously the Virgin customers can't make this moan as, well..they don't have access ;-)

These things happen I guess, but the way that the customers are NOT being kept in the picture is astounding.

Service will resume as soon as possible LOL - a great comfort, I'm sure, when you are running an internet based company.

I can see a few, "Welcome back to BT" ads being very popular in the area over the next few weeks.

Come on Tiger what have you been up to you rascal?

He's a decent bloke - or so he seems. Why the silence over this minor accident.

The problem here is that Tiger is pretty much a corporation in his own right. He makes $100Million per year. I reckon all his "advisers", lawyers and general hangers-on have told him to get his story straight before talking to the police.

Problem is, this is just making him look daft, at best, and being underhand, at worst.

Need to get your hand up in the air Tiger. Come clean about a barney with the missus and then you'll look human. You can get back on with your business then.

Cough to it son.

Irish Football team - FAI

Created: 30/11/2009 13:03:48 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
You've got to let it go boys.

Today the FAI have asked FIFA if they can go to the World Cup as the 33'rd team. Errm, why can't they have a free bye straight in to the final?

How on earth would this work. One group to have 5 teams in it? This group would then have to play pretty much every day and then 2 from 5 go through rather than 2 from 4 - It's just not going to happen.

Feel a bit sorry for you and all that, but time to move on.

I just know that Ireland will get drawn in to the same group as France for the next European Football Championship. Can't wait for that.... ;-)

I am ill. Various things, biliary duct stones, kidney stones & cysts, arthritis, depression, prolapse & hernias.

My dad keeps calling me a hypochondriac - even when I'm in for surgery. He gets jealous when my kids come to me instead of him.

He is the only family support I have, it'd be hard to tell him to F off, but his behaviour is pushing me.

Advice?

Gary McKinnon

So he loses another avenue of protection.

Nobody disputes the fact that Gary did what he did and to be honest the use of his Aspergers kind of clouds the issue a bit.

The main problem is, what is Justice in this case? In the UK we use phrases like;

let the punishment fit the crime
rehabilitation
is he a danger to society

I really believe that he has already "suffered" more than enough because of what he has done. Is he a danger to society? of course not. Does he need rehabilitation? no, I don't think he'll look at another web site for as long as he lives.

Do we need to make an exmaple of him? No, I think anyone that was thinking of attempting to hack in to a computer would have been put off by Garys plight a long time ago.

As a country we need to step in here and say enough is enough. He's a British Citizen and he should be protected by the Government. Tell the US authorities to go take a jump. If this was the other way round a/ the US would never send a citizen to the uk and b/ even if they would, I don't believe the British Government would attempt to use him/her as a scapegoat.

The US should be offering the guy a job.

Gutted !!

I don't like to admit it, but one of my favourite and little known songs from way back is : Journey's - Don't Stop Believin'. Got the original CD and everything.

The following news, though, is a devastating body blow.

Journey's early Eighties hit Don't Stop Believin' has reportedly been selected as the song this year's X Factor winner will record as their first single.

Major work to waterproof and resurface the northbound carriageway of the M5 Avonmouth Bridge is set to finish ahead of schedule and under budget.

The £7m project was due to last until Christmas, but the mild autumn weather has meant the work will end early.

Traffic cones will not be removed until a central reservation and line markings are completed next week.

Highways Agency spokesman Robin Miller said: "We're hoping for the work to be finished by Monday."

Bank Charges - they won !!

The banks have won the supreme court case over the charging of fees.

This is s atricky one. Bottom line is the banks are going to make their money from somewhere.

When one goes overdrawn beyond what has been agreed by the bank, they charge a hideous amount of money for letters and the like. Problem is that one knows these charges and has gone beyond a written agreement. Doesn't this mean that the bank can charge what they like?

I guess I'd rather the banks make the money this way than, say, going back to the old days of charges just to have an account ££.

Bristol World Cup 2018 bid

Right - don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a world cup game at the new (to be built) stadium, but....

On the news yesterday they were quoting some figures;

cost £75 Million
benefits to the city £250 Million

Sounds great!! but wait a minute. Where is this £75 Million coming from? Is it tax payers money? And what exactly is this £250 Million benefit? Will it pay back the borrowing? Will it contribute to local services or lower the council tax?

Why can't the news channels give us the ACTUAL figures we want. If this £250 million goes to large multinational hotel chains and/or large multinational pubs then were exactly is the benefit to the local economy? Ok maybe a few extra temporary bar staff jobs down in the centre, but I can't see anything else.

I think the local tax payers would appreciate a bit more info' on these "magic" numbers !!! before they get really excited about the bid.

Black Friday 2009

Created: 24/11/2009 16:36:11 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Every where I go (online) today, I'm coming across references to Black Friday. So I just looked it up :

"Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November."

So here we go again - another bloomin American only term is coming across the Atlantic to go with Halloween.

We don't even have Thanksgiving for heavens sake !!! so why are we starting to hear about Black Friday.

US Carbon Emissions

Created: 24/11/2009 11:40:56 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Why does the USA believe it can dodge the bullet over their carbon emissions?

The Copenhagen summit starts in 2 weeks and even now President Obama has not committed to attend the event.

This President campaigned on a greener ticket, but as yet has not delivered on these promises.

The US is, along with China, the biggest polluter and we all need them on-board.

It’s all very well us Europeans having taxes and charges on pollution, but without the big players it’s just a drop in the ocean.

China has grown its economy on manufacturing and this needs to be maintained for the good of us all, but the US needs to do the simple things like – stop driving V10 6.0 Litre cars to the local supermarket.

The US needs to take the lead and start thinking globally instead of in its own interests.

Come on Mr President, this could be your legacy on the world stage – don’t miss this chance, there might not be another one !!

Firstly, I do feel a bit sorry for the Irish team. Good performance in France, but ultimately knocked out of the World Cup. Unlucky chaps.

However, I'm listening to the whining and moaning this morning and it's annoying to say the least.

The manager, Trapattoni, is livid claiming unfair conduct all round and some kind of stitch up. Errm, this is the guy who managed Italy !! - enough said.

I also note that there was a clear penalty for France in extra-time which wasn't given. I don't hear any moaning about that from the Irish team - funny that.

Anyway, can't have a World Cup with out the French ;-)

I am surprised that they have lasted this long! true they are entertaining but this is a singing contest and the twins should have never made it to the live show.

Its George Michael and WHAM theme this Saturday, and Jedward are singing the hit I'm Your Man. Oh Joy!

Not sure why George Hamilton is in the jungle... also not sure who the other people are...

....and guess who else??? Katie Price aka Jordan. and reportedly getting paid £350,000 to return to the show which she hopes will bring her "closure".... what sort of "closure"? Is she really worth that much?

At least Peter Andre had the decency to turn down a return to the jungle. Well good for him ;)

This is a moan about several missed calls from a 0845 2453200 number. The caller didn't leave a message. After searching on the internet and looking on the Vodafone's forum it is in fact the Vodafone upgrade team. Its just annoying as they didn't leave a message and just keep on leaving missed calls. If i am eligible for an upgrade why can't they email me or leave details at the bottom of last month's statement.

However, if they do ring back and I do manage to answer I am going to be cautious. Especially hearing yesterday's news about thousands of T-Mobile customers' private details sold on to rival firms.

I think its best to be vigilant and not give your personal details out. If you want an upgrade call the customer service's number.

So I see Scotland sacked George Burley yesterday afternoon.

Ok, he had a poor record and they did get bashed by Wales at the weekend.

Problem is though, he's a decent enough manager and he also wanted the job.

@SFA - you have a very poor team and there's not one player who would make it in to the England team. Not saying England are that great, but it's a fact.

Given these poor players, what on earth did the SFA think he was going to achieve? Qualify for the World Cup?

I can see why he's been got rid of, but who's coming in next? Craig Levine seems to be favourite!!! oh well that's ok then, see you at the next world cup - I think not.

t-mobile, mobile broadband

I've got t-mobile at home as my broadband. I didn't want to pay the stupid money for having a landline, just for broadband.

It's a bit slow (more than a bit), but now that I have the modem stuck to a window I get a nice enough signal strength.

I pay for the, and I quote, Unlimited Mobile Broadband.

I now get a message appearing on my browser that is basically saying I have used up my monthly "unlimited" broadband and that now I am on restricted use as I've gone over 3GB this month. Fair enough, I have watched a bit of on-line football etc...

The fact is, though, that in the 9 months before this, I have used less than 25% of this allocation.

Seems a bit strong to essentially bar me from various sites when it's supposed to be "Unlimited".

I would give them a call about this, but what's the point, it will take 30 minutes to get through to someone and they won't do anything about it.

My 2 years contract is nearly up - time to be nice to me t-mobile, you rascals ;-(

We are "having" the Olympics and some rugby thing too. I'm a big footie fan, but it strikes me that it's all too much. How much is this thing going to cost us? No problem, I guess we'll just print some more money - that seems to work.

I think this comment below sums the whole thing up. What sort of shambolic process is ths anyway. Don't anyone say it's bent - can't be it's the glorious game ; #fail in my opinion

However, is it just me or does "Sting" get up everyones nose these days?

Has anyone heard the drivel he's putting out now? There's some rubbish xmas album now which sounds like something you'd find in a charity shop in the "free" bin.

Anyway, I see he's having a pop at the X Factor now:
Rock star Sting has called the X Factor "televised karaoke" and said judges like Simon Cowell have "no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion".

gordon brown and the letter

Created: 10/11/2009 11:36:27 | Moan by: Simon (bristol) | Comments: 1
Firstly, it's obviously a tragedy that this young lad was killed and his family must be devastated.

I just think that this whole letter business has been blown out of proportion.

Gordon Brown has sight problems and it’s inexcusable to have spelt the family name wrong.

The comments about his handwriting are, however, unjustified. He only has one “good” eye and has to write with a thick felt pen. It’s hardly surprising that his handwriting is a little suspect.

Complain about the spelling, but give him the credit for actually using his hand to write a letter. It would have been easy to use a non-personalised, computer written, letter.

Maclaren Pushchairs Recall In the US

Created: 10/11/2009 11:04:59 | Moan by: Anna (London) | Comments: 0
US Maclaren are recalling one million Maclaren pushchairs/strollers/buggies in the US after a dozen children had their fingertips cut off in the hinges. Why haven't they recalled the UK ones? I am worried as I too have a Maclaren buggie. Although it does say that chopping fingers incidents only happens when unfolding/opening the stroller???

This is part of the article from Sky News: "In co-operation with the US CPSC, we are providing free of charge to all affected consumers and retailers a kit to cover the stroller's hinge mechanism, which poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.

"The voluntary recall is to alert the operator when opening or closing the stroller of the possible risk of injury.

"Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to contact us immediately to obtain the kit which consists of hinge covers designed specifically to fit all Maclaren strollers."

Maclaren told Sky News the recall does not apply to umbrella buggies sold in the UK because "there are a lower number of similar reported incidents amongst the considerably higher number of Maclaren buggies sold in Europe annually relative to the US market".

Does this mean that us UK parents are less important? Or just simply more intelligent? A sensible parent no doubt keeps the child safely out of the way when setting up the pushchair... even so accidents happen and I think its unfair if we are not all treated equally by Maclaren. I want ANSWERS!

I think they are just a bit of fun and, to be honest, good luck to them. We don't want singing divas winning this program every year - boring...

Lisbon Treaty

Created: 03/11/2009 15:39:06 | Moan by: Simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
So there you have it. Half an hour ago all of the European countries signed, therefore ratifying, the Lisbon Treaty.

I’m actually a bit of a pro-European and think this is a good step.

The problem is, we “the people” didn’t get a say in this. The United Kingdom is one of the most anti-European of all of the European countries and I’m sure it would not have been ratified if we had been given the referendum we were promised.

All of the political parties wanted this treaty signing which is why we were never given the vote. Claiming that this is not a fundamental change in the way we deal with Europe is rubbish. Just because you don’t like what the people will say, doesn’t mean you can railroad them.

Nobody voted for Mr Brown as leader. Less than 30% of the population voted for the labour party at the last general election (given the % vote they polled and the % of people that bothered voting).

Might have been a nice touch if this unelected prime minister actually gave the people a voice in some of these important issues

Sadness over Rome -

Created: 31/10/2009 12:16:50 | Moan by: unknown () | Comments: 0
Not so much a moan - my bag was snatched yesterday while in Rome - to all those cowardly, ignorant theives who think that by stealing from other people it makes them big - I hope one day that you get what you deserve. For the smooth, suited young Italian - do you think you have made you mother PROUD? You are so brave, so clever that you mug a middleaged woman who although she tried to stop you, did not have the strength needed to keep her bag. Are you at all aware of the distress and fear you put into this woman, how you took the tools of her life, how you made the very morning she was leaving you beautiful city the one memory she will remember above all others is offear that she would never get home again, anger that she was not able to protect her bag, sadness that all her things had gone forever. her camera that showed all the beautiful places where you live, her phone with her family in it, not to mention you left her with nothing with which to leave your country with. I had always understood that Italian men were protectors that women were to be cared for. YOU have shamed yourself and your family, YOU have shown that YOU have no respect either for yourself or anyone else. Maybe one day YOU will understand what your actions have meant to tourists that came to your country to appricate your history and ways. Meanwhile think about this - what if it had been your Mother in another country and this had happened to her, how would you feel? -
I know that where I live we have crime and boys like you who think that they are intitled to take what they want without earning it and as I pity them so I pity you. I will get over what you did to me and be grateful that although you upset me and frightened me I can sit here in my home with my family around me and know that I am so much better off than you will ever be.

Postal Strike

Created: 30/10/2009 09:24:15 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 3
To be honest I think all that's happening here is a company in the death-throws. The only reason the royal mail is still in it's current form is the updraft in on-line purchasers having "stuff" delivered. Without this, the whole thing would have rolled out in to the private sector years ago.

By striking, the postal workers are simply making this happen sooner. There are numerous reports of big companies (Amazon etc) switching multi-million £ contracts away from the royal mail. I've heard the workers moaning about increased workloads etc - well this won't be a problem soon if they keep striking.

Anyway, what I really want to know is what exactly do the postal workers want? This is never really reported. If it's about pay then there will be zero support from the country. Asking for more money when the whole country is in recession is, to be fair, madness.

If the terms of the contracts of employment are being changed, then this is fair enough and they have my full support in their action. Employment contracts are there to protect workers and employers.

What do they want??? I would have hoped the BBC, at least, would have reported this rather than just spend licence payers money to ship reporters to empty depots. Give the country the facts in black and white then we can all make our minds up as to whether the workers are being badly treated (or not).

I saw something on the TV yesterday. Apparantly Mrs Cheryl Cole, one of the judges, was actually performing her new song on there?

What the hell is that about. So she gets paid and also get's to do a massive publicity/ advertising feature?

What's coming next week? Simon Cowell reading bits from his book? or maybe Danii Minogue talking about plastic surgery?

What a program. Cant' we all just send Simon Cowell a few quid each every year, then he can stop making this self publicising drivel....

Apparently there are "loads" of MP's moaning that they have been asked to pay back the money they have leeched from the tax payer.

The funny thing is...they are happy to moan about it, but I haven't heard a single one of them stand up and tell us all why it's outrageous.

The fact that this money was claimed before the rules were changed is not relevant. It was either legally or morally wrong. Pay it back or lose your job!! At least the leaders are making it clear what needs to happen.

I'm not the biggest fan of Gordon Brown, but I was watching the Andrew Marr show yesterday and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

The Sunday AM show is not too bad normally, they get the guests on and ask the right questions, but yesterday!!!

Why is Andrew Marr asking the prime minister about using painkillers for his eye-sight? This is irrelevant surely. I want to hear how the PM is going to drag the country out of recession and how he will handle the debt mountain. I don;t want to waste time listening to stories about how he lost the use of one of his eyes.

Ok, I know cricket isn't everyones favourite sport and to be fair - it's probably right that the BBC haven't invested boat loads of money on live TV coverage for the ICC champions tournament in South Africa, but...

They paid for radio coverage of those dodgy one day internationals against Australia when nothing was at stake.

Why oh why haven't they broadcast (on the radio) the live england matches though??? England have a genuine chance now of winning this world cup (like) tournament and unless you have sky there's no way to even listen to it.

BBC five live extra has plenty of spare time for this tournament.

Where do they get these muppets from? Anyone interested - I have the guy's mobile number.

By the way, those lights will be there for at least 2 weeks from now. Bristol city council told me the work would be finished on Friday, but the company doing the work are telling me at least 2 weeks!!! nice to know the council are on the case !!!!

Actually Ive got contact names and numbers for both contractors and the council if anyone wants them.

Duncan bannatyne

Please have a look at my previous “moan” about BBC rogue traders first.

MR Bannatyne was on the program last night as he is the owner of the gym chain that carries his name.

He came on to the show and was made to look like a muppett by Anne Robinson – a joy to see.

His company allow under 18’s on sunbeds and he was adamant that there was no link between sunbeds and skin cancer ;-) this was in direct contradiction to the Doctors and senior medical authorities. Obviously Duncan knows better. Having a background in ice-cream vans definitely qualifies him in this area.

What really gets me is this guy when on Dragon’s Den recently, slaughtered a guy who produced a personal ash-tray for smokers.

“I don’t want to have an investment, however good it is, in something which is dangerous to children..I’m out”. This was said in a really aggressive manner.

Ok Duncan, ciggies bad – sunbeds good?? Mine’s a 99 you plonker !!!

This program really gets on my nerves, but that’s not the moan.

Yesterday night featured a big “article” on skin cancer from sunbeds.

Firstly, I agree 100% that this stuff is bad for you. I have never used one. Having lived in Spain for 5 years I’ve seen the effects of skin cancer on people from 35 to 75 and it’s not nice I can tell you.

Yesterday, however, the statement was: There is a 75% higher chance of getting skin cancer for young people using sun beds.

Now on the face of it, that’s a shocking statistic and should be taken note of, but...

The figures need to be backed up with the starting number of skin cancer patients. If 1 in 1,000,000,000 gets skin cancer, then, 75% increase means less than 2 per billion – hardly a high risk. If the figures are 15 people per hundred, then suddenly is 25% chance of skin cancer – a much worse chance.

The BBC seems to run these scare campaigns all the time, but never give you the actual figures, it’s ridiculous.

Absolute shambles.

Im' sure the guys are doing their best, well I hope so anyway!!

But why can't we get to grips with, what is, a very mediocre Australian bowling attack.

Our bowlers are doing ok, but the batsmen are just not giving them anything to work with.

Our best batsmen (apart from Strauss) is probably Trott. He won't play though because of the Champions Trophy. Thi is crazy, we should be picking our best players for the match in hand !!! Not buyilding for some tournament which we will get stuffed in anyway.

Just embarrassing lads!!!

Background : The South African 800 metre winner in Berlin last night. She is under scrutiny and is being gender tested.

This is fair enough as if she is not as she seems then she will have an unfair advantage in the races.

But....the whole thing seems to have turned in to a circus. The idiot on Radio 1 this morning is making crass comments like, “she’s a fella”.

This is a person who is probably a woman and who just has a masculine frame.

This girl is 18 years old and how the hell do you think she feels with all of this going on. She won the final easily last night and hardly celebrated. Before the start of the race her face was a picture. She could see the TV pictures on the huge screen in the stadium and the cameras were only on her. This is trial by TV and is disgusting.

OK, it may well turn out that she is not what she claims to be, but if not – then her moment of triumph after years of training is tainted by this outrageous media circus.

I feel sorry for the girl and I think the way this has been handled is disgusting.

Bristol City v Cyrstal Palace. 1- 0 to the mighty reds ;-)

It was a goal. We all know it. We can all see it on the highlights. To be fair, Warnock has got a major point and I'd be as upset as he was, but...

Watch the highlights and at the end you will see that some of the city players try to shake his hand. I'm guessing they are saying, "sorry about that, but what could we do". Warnock refuses to shake the players hands.

By all means moan to the officials and hey, you never know they might award you the goal in retrospect, but don't act like a big baby to the opposition players!! it's not their fault and you just look like a muppett.

PLEASE REPLY ONLY TO THIS EMAIL ADDRESS: smslive247s@libero.it Dear Friend, As you read this, I don't want you to feel sorry for me, because, I believe everyone will die someday. My name is MR Wahid Adada a Crude Oil merchant in IRAN,i have been diagnosed with Esophageal cancer . It has defiled all forms of medical treatment, and right now I have only about a few months to live, according to medical experts. I have not particularly lived my life so well, as I never really cared for anyone(not even myself)but my business. Though I am very rich, I was never generous, I was always hostile to people and only focused on my business as that was the only thing I cared for. But now I regret all this as I now know that there is more to life than just wanting to have or make all the money in the world. I believe when God gives me a second chance to come to this world I would live my life a different way from how I have lived it. Now that God has called me, I have willed and given most of my property and assets to my immediate and extended family members as well as a few close friends. I want God to be merciful to me and accept my soul so, I have decided to give alms to charity organizations, as I want this to be one of the last good deeds I do on earth. So far, I have distributed money to some charity organizations in Austra, cameroun, liberia,Algeria and Malaysia. Now that my health has deteriorated so badly, I cannot do this myself anymore. I once asked members of my family to close one of my accounts and distribute the money which I have there to charity organization in Bulgaria and Pakistan, they refused and kept the money to themselves. Hence, I do not trust them anymore, as they seem not to be contended with what I have left for them. The last of my money which no one knows of is the huge cash deposit of fifteen million dollars $15,000,000,00 that I have with a finance/Security Company abroad. I will want you to help me collect this deposit and dispatched it to charity organizations. I have set aside 10% for you and for your time. God be with you. MR Wahid Adada smslive247s@libero.it

For my work I have to spend the day starring at a screen. I also have to read hundreds of emails regarding marketing campaigns.

Every single one of the spammy American get rich marketing schemes has the same format.

Some guy that looks like Pete Sampras driving around in a flashy convertible car in, what looks like, some swanky suburb in Los Angeles.

All start with the same. “I’ve developed a marketing tool which can ..........you too can benefit from what your competitors have paid.........they don’t want you to have this information.......and its only $25” LOL

I would post a few link examples here, but I’d hate to think of them actually earning from it ;-)

Do something a bit more..un-American guys, please !!

Well, I hope the comments this woman has made this week will stop her becoming the next Labour leader.

Her comments about the economy being in a worse state due to men and “If there were a Lehmans Sisters, it wouldn’t have gone bust..” is just down right ridiculous.

If me or any bloke in fact said this type of thing about women we would be in court quicker than Michael Jacksons Doctor.

“From now on there should always be a woman occupying one of the top 2 jobs in the Labour party”. WHAT !!! so don’t worry about the best person for the job then just put a bird in there, whatever she’s like. Maybe Jordan could do it?

Unbelievable.

Transplant system

Created: 31/07/2009 09:27:50 | Moan by: Simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
Fact: All human lives that can be saved through the transplant system/ register is a brilliant thing.

Here’s the problem though; Giving your organs away, on death, is probably the greatest charitable donation a person can make. The Giving of the gift of life to many people after you die.

Now, the news today is that these organs are going to private patients and/or international recipients.

A life is and a life – let’s not forget that.

However, when making ANY charitable donation, the “giver” knows where the money is being spent, where their time will be used and the target group of the receivers.

This system of donors needs to be completely transparent. The name of the individual recipient should, obviously, never be disclosed, but the family (and the person signing the donor card) should know a bit about how and where their organs will be used.

This will act as comfort to the relatives and assurance to the potential donor.

Having news headlines like todays will simply stop people becoming donors – or opting out of donorship.

I love my sport, most people love some kind of sport.

Well, we are “doing” the Olympics in 2012 and it’s going to cost us all an arm and a leg. Probably two legs by the time it’s all finally totalled up.

We are in for the 2018 Football World Cup too. That would be great !!

But hold on...

We are now having:
Rugby League world cup
The Rugby Union world cup

I think we might need to keep an eye on the old purse strings lads.

Next thing you know we’ll be having the pan-american games or maybe the African cup of nations.

Let somebody else spend some money for god’s sake!!! We are in a recession you know.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know that using sunbeds isn’t exactly good for you.

I’ve been listening to the BBC (and the other news providers) this morning and all I hear is. 75% increase in chances of getting sun cancer from sunbeds.

Ok, this is shocking news, but what are the actual figures for heavens sake. How can you present statistics without giving out the underlying figures? 75% increase from what? 0.0001% chance or 50% chance.

Absolutely ridiculous reporting!!

American

Created: 29/07/2009 16:03:34 | Moan by: Simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
This is an age old problem, but it is happening to me a lot at the moment, to me anyway.

Since when did we spell realise/ specialise/ monetise etc with a “z”?

I don’t give a monkey’s what the Americans want to do with “their” language. They can pay by check, they can stick their luggage in the trunk. They can even sit on their fanny for all I care.

What I object to is the use of this bastardised language under the name of English American. It’s not English American, there’s no such thing. It’s not English either, it’s American.

So when I get documents to correct from our European colleagues, I end up spending time removing “Z’s” and replacing with “S’s”. Then the spell check flags it up as a typo !!!
I know you can spell realise with a “z” and it’s perfectly acceptable in English, before you start shouting, but WHY !!

the nanny state

Created: 24/07/2009 12:31:19 | Moan by: simon (bristol) | Comments: 0
We’ve got ourselves a nanny state. We all know this and have to put up with it because the government tells us it’s in our own interests.

We’ve got more cameras than people
An ID system coming in – well when we can afford it
Speed cameras on every street
Police powers on the increase
We’ve got a tax system that probably costs more to collect than it takes in.

Now all of this is as we expect from this government. We’ve got 25% of the working population working for the government so I guess they need things to administer, but...

...I was out with some work colleagues the other night and it was late. I mean really late and the only place we could get a drink was in a Casino.

I was a bit worried as I remember the old days when it took 3 days to get casino membership. The idea was that the vulnerable people would have changed their mind about going in 3 days later. Anybody that really was in to this type of thing would already be a member, so not a problem. You could also sign people in so, again, not a problem.

Now you can walk in (or stagger in) straight to a cash-point and take all you r money out on a drunken whim.

How the hell does this fit with a government intent on knowing what’s best for us and what will hurt us.

Maybe it’s something to do with money? No it can’t be, that would be cynical.

It’s obvious that having these massive casinos that people who don’t know what they are doing can wander into and spend the weeks mortgage money is a good thing. the government wouldn’t allow it otherwise surely!

I rest easy in my bed.

I’m not going to pretend to know enough about the Justice system and how this applies to RB. Personally I’m all for rehabilitation and in some cases, prison isn’t the right option, but..

What’s getting on my nerves a bit is that just because this guy is ill, he should be released?? This is a different thing altogether.

The original crime was a violent crime and although it looks as if the train operative that was hit with an iron bar died from non-related conditions the point remains – violent robbery has its tariff.

RB lived the high life in Brazil on stolen money. When the money ran out he wanted to “come home”. Well, fair enough, but don’t expect to have your cake and eat it. If you can’t do the time etc !!

An old pensioner in prison, very ill. Yes it’s not great, but should he be released? I don’t see it myself. Has he paid the money + interest back? Has he shown remorse? OK, he’s not a danger to society, everyone knows this, but while we have the system in place as punishment as well as rehabilitation we have to stand by the decision to keep him in.

I’m feeling sick this morning because of the media coverage of this sad death.

The media are clambering over the story and what a tragedy it all is. They’ve got all his old mates on there. Record producers and music critics are all acclaiming the man.

This is the same media that were covering his trial a few years back in, to say the least, a negative way. “it’s just a matter of time before he’s caught”, was the underlying message.

I love watching the tennis. I love watching all sports.
All over the media this morning there are comments about the fact that only 2 Brits got through to the 2nd round. This is portrayed as a national disaster.

It’s not a disaster! It’s the fact that we Brits compete in every sport invented. We want to win the Football World Cup, Rugby World Cup, The Ashes, snooker, darts, all Olympic events. We get moans from the swimmers saying it’s underfunded. The cyclists want more recognition.

So, it’s hardly surprising that we haven’t got many kids playing tennis. It’s not exactly an easy game to set up in the park is it.
So, I love the tennis, but I don’t give a stuff that there are only 2 Brits left in. It’ll be 1 in a day or so – followed by national mourning when A Murray gets knocked out.

Then it will be The Ashes.

the old classic - BINS !!!

We've been digging up weeds in our garden over the last month or so. We bought the special green, degradeable bags like good citizens.

The bin men have been on strike over the last few weeks and so, obviously, there's been a bit of a build up. I won't go in to the strike (that's another moan), but now things seem to be back to normal. However,...

Our green bags are nicley decomposing now by our garden fence. These bags have been out for a month and, as you would expect, are starting to decompose (as they are supposed to).

WE all pay a boat load of money for this service so why won't the council take them!!! I'm going to give the council a call today and will post what they say.

By the way - YES - I know it's SITA that collect the rubbish etc etc - but who employed them? who has ultimate repsonsibility? who are telling everyone to go green with disposals? yep, the council.

There was a piece of video that showed a planet, the same size as earth, smashing in to the side of earth and then everything turned red.

The donut reporter then says, "what you've seen there is a bit of computer graphics". YOU DONT SAY !!! and there was me thinking it must have been recorded during a previous global catastrophe ;-) Honestly, these people should stick to the script or go and work on CBEEBIES..or ITV.

I'm not sure if this is true, or even if it qualifies as a moan? But it's kind of typical...

Outside Bristol Zoo is the car park; with spaces for 150 cars & 8 coaches. It has been manned 6 days a week for 23yrs by the same charming & very polite car park attendant with the ticket machine. The charges are £1 per car & £5 per coach.

On Monday 1 June, he did not turn up for work. Bristol Zoo management phoned Bristol City Council to ask them to send a replacement parking attendant.

The Council said "That car park is your responsibility."

The Zoo said "The attendant was employed by the City Council... wasn't he?"

The Council said "What attendant?"

Gone missing from his home is a man who has been taking the car park fees daily, amounting to about £400/day for the last 23 years. Tax free as well

And I don't have a "security guard" checking if the lipstick/perfume I carry in my handbag is worth consficating/nicking.

Well played lads !!!

Barcelona are a great team, let's not forget that....but...

Apart from the first 10 minutes and a couple of 40 yard shots from Ronaldo (yes he was playing yesterday), there was nothing from United.

This result says an awful lot about United IMO. This is a defeat that was so thoroughly deserved I think it almost warrants a squad rething at United. The manner of defeat, total midfield dominance and skill levels of the Barca players shows up some of the shortfalls in the team. Park and Giggs are really not up to it at this level. Ronaldo looks like he's had enough and wants to go to Real Madrid.

Big changes coming me thinks !!

That was 2 ½ weeks ago and my “lawn” looks like the top of Duncan Goodhew’s head (no offense Duncan – one of our best ever swimmers).

I love my cricket. I will listen to it all day on radio 4, given the chance. I’m actually going to see one of the one-day internationals over this bank holiday.

Here’s, the moan though : The West Indies are showing complete apathy to their cricket at the moment. I know it’s early to be playing and it’s cold etc, but these guys have such a rich history in the game.

Their captain looks as if he couldn’t give a monkeys.

After Australia, the West Indies were THE team to play against and the attitude they are showing is just terrible. Bangladesh would probably pout up more of a fight than this team.

I hope they beat England in the first match today. At least they may be inspired to play some of the cricket which is so deeply rooted in the history of the game. COME ON the Windies. Don’t win the series though ;-)

This is a moan about the treatment of this guy, not the man himself.

Alright, I know he takes the overview on things like expenses etc, but he is 100% being made a scapegoat in this fiasco.

The MP’s have got a nerve asking for him to be removed. If they hadn’t all had their noses in the trough then this would not be a story. If he had had the power to do anything about this before hand, they would have all been asking for him to be removed for making the changes.

It’s hypocrisy in the grandest order.

This has shades of David Kelly to me. The MP’s should be ashamed of themselves...and they said hunting was banned !!!

Let the man get to the recess and then he can do whatever he thinks is the right course.

Insurance fraud

My car was hit while parked a week ago.

Turns out that my car is a write-off ;-( Ok, I will get my money under the “un-insured motorist” clause. Well done Directline Insurance.

Here’s the story though, the driver of the vehicle hung around for over an hour after the accident and was speaking to taxi drivers etc.

2 days later and the driver decides to say, “my car was stolen”. 2 days after the accident!!!

I have spoken to their insurance company and the police as this is just outrageous. I will let you know how this one pans out, but I reckon they will get away with it.

Who hangs around for over 1 hour after stealing a car? Nobody that’s who.

To be continued......

Gas and Electricity companies

Here’s a good one. I moved into a new house a few months ago.. I rang up and gave “them” a meter reading.

1 month later I decided to switch to another supplier. The new reading goes out to both of them and that should be it.

2 months later, I get a final bill from British Gas. “that looks a bit high”, I thought. Before they take me to court, I gave them a call to query it.

“Not a problem” they say and mysteriously the bill gets reduced by nearly £100.

Now this must be happening all over the country and my guess is that most people just pay it. DONT!!!! Give them a call, the rascals.

Liberal Democrats

This is the party that were selling themselves as “whiter than white”. Now they’ve got all mixed up in this stealing from the taxpayers. Oh sorry, shouldn’t say that – bending the rules for expenses !! Unbelievable.

I wonder if Hector the Tax Inspector has had a look at all of these expenses. Even if they are not breaking the law in terms of the payments, they are surely benefits-in-kind. Have a look Hector, maybe it can reduce the amount of money the country owes?

Jordan and Peter

Well, I reckon I’ve just about heard it all now. Jordan or Katie, as I believe she now likes to be called due to keeping her clothes on, and Peter will be separating.

It’s not the fact that this news is blasted all over the radio and TV, but the quote “they hope the media respects their privacy”. What a joke, they have made all of their substantial fortune by being flaunted in-front of the media.

I hope they get pictures of them over the next few days looking miserable.

What a joke!! live by the sword, die by the sword

Alcoholics and benefits

Alcoholics could have their benefits docked if they do not get
treatment, under government plans.

Yeah, that government scheme sounds like a really well thought out proposal !!

So you take away the money and then they have to break in to your car or house. Nice one !!

I'm not saying there shouldn’t be something done, but surely it would be better to put the time and effort in to helping people in other ways. More rehab centres and more advice for the affected. Surely the duty paid on just a fraction of the booze could more than pay for increased services.

Lewis Hamilton

I know he won the F1 championship last season and it was a fantastic achievement and everything, but.. Why has he (and his team) lost the plot. F1 has always been one of those sports where entertainment value has been pretty low, until now. All this business with telling porkies to the stewards just makes me want to stop watching it, although I will be sneakily watching the Malaysian GP ;-) He’s a bright lad and he’ll earn more money than Richard Branson, so why do this. Somebody needs to sit him down and say, in the words of Brian Clough, “you’ve let yourself down, you’ve let the team down and you’ve let the whole country down”. That was Cloughie wasn’t it? ..And now, he’s in the news telling us how it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in his life. Well, I can tell you young man, that there’s a lot of things that could be worse in your life than this. Get a grip.

Paul McCartney

Here he goes, having his say about downloaded music. Maybe if he stopped pumping out his albums, the money people spent on them could be going to some of the small bands he is so concerned about.

This argument has been going on since the 70’s with “tapes”. Ok it’s more common now as there is no difference between pirated music and the real downloaded stuff.

Maybe if the record companies started being a bit more proactive in this area, they wouldn’t have to throw a couple of Swedish blokes in the clanger for a year.

Where’s the value-added? In the good old days you had a nice big juicy album cover to look at. There must be a way of adding value to proper downloads, by offering access to new material/ cheap tickets/ exclusive web sites. Come on think about it lads.
